Dangerous Memorials
The decalogue contains prohibitions on both free speech and on types of illicit thought. The assigning of God’s name (person) with anything that is contrary to truth and goodness, anything that attempts to co-opt God as though God is not alive, is abusive of the one whose name Israel was given.
Prohibitions that forbid hate groups, their speech, and their symbols, keep our thoughts from being intruded upon through overt and subtle forms of deceit. It is unconscionable that a healthy society allow poisonous speech, and symbolic thought to invade the life of its citizens.
Covetousness first occurs in our thoughts...thou shalt not. So, living, exhibiting, instilling, values in society has the power to keep covetousness in all its forms pushed aside like impending shame - if entertained.
Let history books identify humanity’s shame but glorify those who stood for peace and lived virtuous lives.
The memorializing of demented souls like Andrew Jackson is a crime against humanity. He belongs in history books as one of America's objects of shame.
