All God's Grandest Prophets are Poets
My interest in poetic communication is related to my predilection for existentialism, for Bonhoeffer's view on ethical reality, for the power of the moment, for the love of living.
I've written a book of poetry and placed poems at the beginning of book chapters and theological essays. I've studied the poetic patterns of Hebrew poetry, the Christological hymns of the New Testament, the strained poetic visions of apocalyptic literature and lived a poet's life - a poet cannot be restrained. I wrote this piece today after soaking up some Philippine sun and swimming in clear blue waters.
Poetry Is
Poetry is - words dancing to the essence of life’s rhythm
making those who hear to sing songs
songs that flow from the blues - erupting into joyous praise
We are poetic creatures because God’s language is poetry
Existence is poetic like a spiritual instinct
drawing us toward the immersion of creature and deity
in waters of life erupting from within
Only the poet can unite God and humanity
Only the prophet can become one with the message
Prophets are Poets
Poetry breathes the unseen power of hope and chokes on despair
Poetry aligns the crooked with an arrow whose feathers fly straight
Poetry insists that life’s meaning is more than, always, more than
words without color
